Pathology of Iran's regional-Asian leadership inspired by positioning theory

Abstract

Both before and after the Islamic Revolution, reaching regional and Asia leadership has always been a goal for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran has geopolitical, natural, and even cultural and civil capacities and potentials to play this role. However, the inappropriate use of these potentials in the last 100 years has prevented Iran from reaching this goal and even caused serious challenges to its development. Therefore, in this study, the main question is what limitations and challenges Iran has to face for regional and Asia leadership. The reasoning in this study is that Iran tends to be the leader and has sufficient natural and human resources; however, the country is not able to apply potential abilities and turn them into actual ones; also, Iran is too idealistic in pursuing leadership and does not consider the real abilities and conditions of the country; therefore, not only has Iran had problems in regional leadership, but also has been deprived of international capacities because of provoking worldwide tensions and the negative views to the country. Such views have led to entrenchment and hostility against Iran and have made the development of the country a challenge.
