Abstract

Introduction

The idea of Iranshahri, whose roots go back to pre-Islamic Iran, and specifically from the Achaemenid to the Sasanian era, was first recognized by the Sasanians as an idea and part of the cultural identity of the Iranians, and reached its peak of development and perfection during the Sasanian era. It was also revived as an intellectual movement towards modernism in Iran from the late Qajar era, and specifically with the works of Moshir al-Dawlah Pirnia, and continued in the Pahlavi era in the form of civilizational and identity archaism. After the 1979 revolution in Iran, this idea was strongly marginalized in the ideology of political Islam, but gradually, since the 1990s, parts of society that have had a nationalist attitude and have been mainly critical of the Islamist hegemony in Iran have leaned towards it, and the scientific efforts of Seyyed Javad Tabatabaei have also been very influential in this field.Accordingly, it can be considered as a reviving intellectual movement that claims to build a political order in the future of Iran

Methods

Iranshahri thought has examined various topics, and in this study, the representation of the position and rights of political opponents in Iranshahri thought is examined, focusing on the Achaemenid era and using a descriptive-analytical method and a critical approach. For this purpose, cultural sources from the Achaemenid era, such as the Cyrus Charter and the Bisotun Inscription, are among the main texts cited in this article

Results and Discussions

Iranshahri thought means Iranian political thought in ancient times (in the form of a cultural concept) which is based on the three pillars of the essence (as a cosmic order), the ideal king (as the guardian of the essence), and the utopia (as the desired Iranian society). The most important ability of Iranshahri thought is to recognize a type of political order that is most compatible with Iranian history and identity, and the inability to look at political thought in ancient Iran from a new perspective is known as the main weakness of Iranshahri thought. Iranshahri thought in ancient times was controlled and managed by two pillars: the political system and the religious system. In some cases, due to the concentration of power in the hands of one of the parties, Iranshahri thought was directed according to the discretion and type of attitude of the dominant political system or religious system and was influenced by the type of direction and guidance of that system (whether political system or religious system). The political system did not seek to eliminate cultural differences and build a homogeneous nation, but rather this was pursued by the representatives of the religious system, namely the Zoroastrian religious leaders, through the elimination of religious minorities, the imposition of specific religious beliefs, and the formation of religious unity, because they knew very well that the Zoroastrian religion was the basis for the survival of the Iranian government and religious independence

Conclusions

The Iranian thought did not base its political order on considering equal rights for minorities as the majority (considering equal rights for minorities as the majority is limited to a specific period, the limits of which were determined by the specific circumstances and conditions of the time), but rather shaped it according to the classification of individuals into first- and second-class citizens. Due to the lack of focus of political opponents in the Achaemenid era on a specific religious system (such as the Zoroastrian religious system during the Sasanian era), we witness greater tolerance and tolerance of the government towards the people in choosing the desired religion and religion, while in the Sasanian era, including Mani and Mazdak, they were deprived of social rights, including the right to life and political rights
